Gamma Lambda Marks 105th Anniversary .jpg)
Last Friday marked the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Gamma Lambda Chapter. Since it was chartered on April 20, 1907, the chapter has initiated 2,325 men into Delta Tau Delta. Purdue’s all-time Delt membership ranks in the top 10 among Delta Tau Delta chapters.
Gamma Lambda’s first initiate was Parkin T. (Park) Sowden, the founding chapter president from Burlington, Iowa. The original 40 initiates hailed from 11 states and included 13 men who were part of the Coterie Club, the predecessor organization to Delta Tau Delta at Purdue. Attending the festivities on that historic day were national Delt President Frank C. Wieland and Ritualist Stuart Maclean, whose historic Delt work included authoring the Delt Creed and the song, Delta Shelter.

Remember When? Thank you to
Charles McCoy '68 for sharing the following...
On returning from our pledge class walk-out on a very cold Fall night in 1965, the actives locked the house and made us appear as a group to knock on the front door and beg permission to enter. Suddenly the windows above were thrown open followed by eggs, flour, water from pots and a hose, and other food stuffs from the kitchen raining down on us from above. We runaway pledges were required as penance to sing the shelter song at the top of our lungs, as the actives shouted from above and we shivered in the cold below.
Looking back, all this is actually a 'warm' memory in the many often humorous experiences of youngsters growing into men and brother Delts."
